Detailed Description

H6 in. x W6 in. In the Cascades of the Pacific Northwest, this plant emerges from tiny corms in the silt of glacial streams. At low elevations, it is most commonly encountered on shady cliffs dripping with spring snow-melt or within the spray of waterfalls, hence the common name.  An ephemeral perennial emerging in fall, its rounded, scalloped leaves remain fresh green all winter. Racemes of showy, white bells appear in early spring, and the entire plant disappears by summer as its habitat dries, leaving many stem-bulbils that drop and roll away to further the colony. In the garden, it is ideal for wet seeps and crevices in the shaded rockery. Hardy to Zone 5.
