Detailed Description

H5 in. x W3 in. This rare subspecies from California is a petite plant with short stems of nodding, cream-white flowers with a purple-brown ‘bill’ in spring. Small clumps of green leaves die down into dormancy by summer, returning in fall. Hardy to Zone 6.

These native wildflowers enjoy moist, rich loam in the shaded woodland garden or rockery. Some species enter dormancy in summer and must be kept dry and cool; green growth returns with autumn rains.
