Large, trifoliate leaves of a thick texture are glossy-green with a light blue film on the underside; the nearly grotesque flower-spathe sits sheltered beneath, which, in the form we propagate, is richly striped green and black. This bold species from Japan is one of the best and easiest in cultivation, forming a strong colony of its deciduous, shield-like foliage in dappled shade and rich, moist loam. Hardy to Zone 6.
